BIRTHDAYS.

The global issue of international sex trafficking can seem insurmountable. It can be something that “happens elsewhere in the world”.

And yet, Azalea works with survivors of sex trafficking each and every day, in and around Luton. So, it’s happening here, on our very doorstep.

We say survivors, but I wonder sometimes whether this gives the impression that they are free from being trafficked for sexual exploitation. Many who are cared for in Encompass are still caught up in the landscape of sex trafficking. They are surviving. They are used and abused, violated against and subjected to the worst of human behaviour. This is their every day experience.

It is our privilege to offer, small, yet significant gestures of love, care and support. Amidst all the necessary practical and administrative help that is given, we love to celebrate the high days and holidays of life with our guests. It was such a delight to give presents and a birthday cake yesterday, to one who is surviving the trauma of sex trafficking. She had never before had her birthday celebrated. What a joy for her, and for us, that we get to do that together!
